Robert Sorrell, MD

Robert Sorrell, MD

Primary Investigator, 8 years clinical research experience
Dr. Sorrell is a native of Vestavia, Alabama and graduated from Auburn University as an Academic All-American collegiate athlete. He is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who received his medical degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham where he also completed his orthopaedic surgery residency. Dr. Sorrell’s special interests include total joint replacements, sports medicine, pediatric injuries and arthoscopic procedures of the knee and shoulder.

Robert Wolf, MD

Dr. Robert Wolf is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who specializes in sports medicine, arthroscopy of the knee, shoulder and elbow, total joint replacement, and worker’s compensation injuries. He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine after graduating from Pennsylvania State University with an honors degree in pre-medicine. Dr. Wolf completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama.

Mark Downey, MD

Mark Downey, MD

Sub-Investigator, 3 years clinical research experience
Dr. Downey is from Anniston, Alabama. Board-Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Dr. Downey specializes in non-surgical orthopaedics with interest in spine-related conditions. He is highly experienced in the areas of interventional spine procedures, including epidural blocks and EMG nerve testing. Dr. Downey received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Samford University and his medical degree from The University of South Alabama. He completed his residency at University of Alabama, Birmingham with additional fellowship training in interventional spine procedures under fluoroscopy.

Ronnie Roan, MD

Ronnie Roan, MD

Sub-Investigator, 3 years clinical research experience
Dr. Roan is a native of Birmingham, AL. He is board certified in Anesthesiology and an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at UAB. Dr. Roan holds certification as an FAA Air Medical Examiner as well as a private pilot. He is an invited speaker to AMTC, CCTMC, the Aerospace Medical Association and American College of Physicians annual assemblies. He also serves as the course director for the UAB School of Medicine’s curriculum in Aeromedical Evacuation. Dr. Roan received his medical degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. After graduation he served four years in the U.S. Air Force at Keesler AFB and Malmstrom AFB as a flight surgeon. While at Malmstrom, he was the Chief of Aerospace Medicine, responsible for 13 operational medicine programs including, base-wide emergency services and a robust helicopter search and rescue program. He continues to serve in 117th Air Refueling Wing of the Air National Guard. He has 3 years of clinical research experience.
